World Water Forum

It is an international meeting held every three years since 1997. Hosted by the World Water Council created in 1996, it was designed for common adaptation to global water issues.
The meeting attracts over 40,000 participants from presidents, ministers and deputy ministers, representatives from international agencies such as OECDs, professional agencies, and civic organizations from around the world. It promotes the severity of the global water shortage, encourages international cooperation, discusses solutions over diverse water issues, adopts political declarations for resolutions, and is a business-focused water expo. Held for a week around March 22nd, World Water Day, the forum had its seventh meeting in Daegu in 2015.

With over 46,000 participants from 168 countries, the 7th Daegu & Gyeongbuk World Water Forum, with the theme of “Water for Our Future,” offered over 400 sessions, making it the largest forum in number of participants and programs.

The forum also called for including “water and sanitation” into the UN’s SDGs as a single goal. It adopted a declaration at the minister, deputy minister, national assembly, and local government levels for international cooperation beyond borders regarding completing a new climate change agreement, preventing and managing water disasters, and water resource management.
