Directions of Standardization
-
Customer or tacit knowledge has limitations of ensuring uniform quality due to differences in personal experiences and skills. Working with national and organizational standards, standards for facilities and equipment related to the SWM have been prepared. In addition, water management technologies and concepts of standards were established to develop products in conjunction with market standards. These were classified through the ISP system.Conceptual Map of STEP-ISP Classification by Characteristics of Technology
- Hardware technology (facilities and devices)
- Software or system related to operation of a facility
-
Documents describing technological activities

Classification by Characteristics of Standards
-
Design and Construction Standards
- standards for design and construction of infrastructures, products, and devices as well as for construction specification
-
Planning and Operation Standards
- Software Standards: development method and guideline for model modularization
- Information Standards: time-series database standard specification and web service database manual
-
Operation Standards
- standardized manual of operation and management knowhow

STEP-I
Creating, developing, and preparing product standards for infrastructures and devices needed for smart water management over entire water circulation processes
Example of Structural Standards
- To obtain hydrological data for management and planning of water resource facilities, a rainfall observatory is established once every ○○㎢
- To obtain proper prediction of flooding, a water level observatory is established every ○○㎞.
- For smart water management, AMI is established per customer and establishment of a block is implemented by ○○ households.
-
STEP-S
Preparing standards for structural elements and development of software solutions and services needed for smart water management over entire water circulation processes
-
Software Standards
advancing and developing software after development standards and modularization for sustainability and on-site applicability
-
Information Service Standards
standardization of quality management, database, and services for a lifecycle of water information from measurement of water information to transfer, storage, use, and sharing
-
Software Standards
-
STEP-P
Preparing manuals and standardizing processes and management over technical areas (from design to operation and management) for entire water management project areas
Customary and tacit knowledge, which individuals obtain through learning and experiences and which makes it difficult to ensure uniform quality due to differences in personal experiences and skills, becomes a standard manual (formal knowledge) and asset that many people can share.
- - Creating an optimized standard process manual through which everyone work with same method and produces same results
- - Promoting the creation of new business profit models in Korean and foreign technology consulting based on standard manual
-
Korea Airports Corporation
standardization of processes in airport operation, facility/equipment management, safety management, and customer handling -> exported to Columbia and Ecuador
-
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power
establishing of a business administration system by business area and standardization of work processes -> exporting of a standard operation system to UAE’s nuclear plant system
-
SUEZ(WIKTI)
development of a standard process manual in 38 areas for waterworks and sewage services and applying this to foreign business sites (Algeria and Indonesia), producing business improvement in a short period of time.
