    About the department

    Water Supply Research Center takes the lead in supplying healthy water and developing national businesses by producing and supplying high-quality tap water and operating and managing sewerage system and developing key technologies related to industrial waste water.

    To develop future water supply technologies connected with new management strategies, it operates TF which is a planning group for securing smart water-management techniques and is also conducting a research to secure K-Water's Smart Water Grid (SWG) at present.

    The development of technique for constructing dispersal-type water supply system and vertical water treatment design developed by performing tasks of research group of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for the purpose of safe and stable water supply suitable for paradigm of future society were nominated for "100 excellent performances of national research and development" by Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning and "Project Innovation Awards" which is a award to be given by International Water Association after evaluating the excellence and innovativeness in water engineering areas in the world and Honor Award were received in East Asia and other global areas.

    It also contributes to the realization of water welfare of the nation with strengthened commercialization of seawater desalination techniques and conducts researches to lead future technologies in 100 years, developing Microorganism Fuel Cell (MFC)-based self energy supporting water treatment technique and sludge-reducing technique.

    It supports K-Water as well as water supply and drainage operation efficiency project, developing techniques for designing, operating, and managing field-customized water supply facilities. It does its best for continuous water supply by solving current pending issues through the development of water treatment technique for controlling smelly substance and algae causing filtration failure, the optimal operation of drainwater from filtration plant, and the development of BAT technique and also makes great efforts to supply healthy tap water safely to home by developing pipe-cleaning technique for managing the water quality of water pipe network.

    Research Institute for Water Supply and Drainage will continue to do its utmost for the advancement of techniques for water supply and drainage in Korea, achieving practical research performance by developing various researches with the utilization of site of water supply and drainage, model, and demonstration plant infrastructures being operated by K-Water.
